Black Women are Leaving Corporate America

January 18, 2023

I’m reading more and more of this news and the sense of alarm that is frequently accompanied by it honestly brings joy to my heart. This is what that alarm means to me:

🔔 Alarm bells ringing means that somebody has looked up and realized that an entire segment of the population has been giving more than their 100%.
🔔 Alarm bells mean that someone is going to realize that our contributions are immeasurable.
🔔 Alarm bells mean that people at the top-most positions are sweating about the loss of a valuable, engaged partner in governance.

Maybe those alarm bells will mean change for #change for those who need to make it. Maybe they will smooth the path for those who aren’t already done-done.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: #entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone. The only way forward shouldn’t be to strike out on your own. There should be a safe, respectful option for those who don’t want to have to carve out their own tables to get a seat.

That said, no one wants a folded chair at the established tables either. If you want the best, you better spring for those sweet, sweet ergonomics. I’ve seen companies do it. Uphold those voices and you’ll be paid back in dividends. Continue to repress them and you will miss out on (my favorite tag) #blackgirlmagic.
